Cheat
Cards Used
Cheat (also known as Bluff, I Doubt It, or BS) is played with a standard 52-card deck and is suitable for 3 to 6 players. No jokers are used.
Aim of the Game
The aim of Cheat is to be the first player to get rid of all your cards by placing them onto the discard pile. Players may tell the truth or bluff about the cards they are playing, but they risk being challenged by other players.
Point Scoring
Cheat does not use a points system. The winner is the first player to play all of their cards successfully. If a player is caught bluffing or makes an incorrect challenge, they must pick up the entire discard pile, making it harder to win.
How to Deal
Shuffle the deck and deal all the cards evenly among the players. If the cards cannot be divided equally, some players may receive one extra card. Players keep their cards hidden from the other players.
Gameplay
- 1
The player to the dealer's left begins by placing one or more cards face down into the centre and announcing their rank (for example, “one Ace” or “two 5s”).
- 2
Play continues clockwise, with each player placing one or more face-down cards while announcing the next rank in sequence (typically Ace, 2, 3, and so on up to King before returning to Ace).
- 3
Players may tell the truth or bluff about the cards they have played. At any time after a player has placed their cards, another player may challenge by saying “Cheat!”
- 4
If the challenged player was bluffing, they must pick up the entire discard pile. If the challenge was incorrect and the player was telling the truth, the challenger must pick up the discard pile instead.
- 5
Play continues until one player has no cards remaining and their final play is not successfully challenged. That player is declared the winner.
