Cards Used

Solitaire (also known as Patience) is played with a standard 52-card deck and is a single-player game. No jokers are used in the classic version.

Aim of the Game

The aim of Solitaire is to move all the cards into four foundation piles, one for each suit, arranged in order from Ace to King.

Point Scoring

Traditional Solitaire does not require a scoring system. The game is usually won by successfully completing all four foundation piles in suit order.

How to Deal

Cards are dealt into seven tableau columns: the first column has 1 card, the second has 2 cards, the third has 3 cards, and so on up to 7 cards in the final column. Only the top card of each column is face up; the rest are face down. The remaining cards form a draw pile.

Gameplay

  1. 1

Players move cards between tableau columns, the draw pile, and the foundation piles following these rules:

    1. (a)

In the tableau, cards must be placed in descending order and alternating colours (red on black, black on red).

    2. (b)

Only Kings (or sequences starting with a King) can be moved into empty tableau columns.

    3. (c)

Aces are moved to start foundation piles, and cards are built upward in suit from Ace to King.

    4. (d)

Players draw from the stock pile when no moves are available, revealing new cards to play.

  2. 2

The game is won when all cards are successfully moved to the foundation piles in correct order and suit.
