Texas Hold’em Poker
Cards Used
Texas Hold’em is played with a standard 52-card deck and can be played with 2 to 10 players at a table. No jokers are used.
Aim of the Game
The aim is to win chips (or money in casual/real play) by forming the best five-card poker hand or by getting other players to fold so you are the last player remaining in the hand.
Point Scoring
Texas Hold’em does not use a points system. Instead, players win chips by winning individual hands. The winner of each hand takes the “pot,” which is all the chips bet during that round. Over time, the player with the most chips wins.
How to Deal
Each player is dealt two private cards face down (called “hole cards”). Then five community cards are dealt face up in the centre of the table in stages: 3 cards (the flop), 1 card (the turn), and 1 final card (the river). Players use any combination of their two hole cards and the five community cards to make the best five-card hand.
Gameplay
- 1
A hand of Texas Hold’em is played in betting rounds:
- (a)
Pre-flop — After receiving hole cards, players bet, call, raise, or fold.
- (b)
Flop — Three community cards are revealed, followed by another betting round.
- (c)
Turn — A fourth community card is revealed, followed by betting.
- (d)
River — The fifth and final community card is revealed, followed by the final betting round.
- (a)

After the final round of betting, if more than one player remains, there is a showdown, where players reveal their cards. The best five-card poker hand wins the pot. If all other players fold before the showdown, the last remaining player wins automatically.
